چکیده

Aims The purpose of this study was to investigate the occurrence Escherichia coli O157 and O26 on Belgian dairy cattle farms, presence virulence genes in confirmed isolates association E. with calf diarrhoea. Methods Results In total, 233 recto-anal mucosal swabs (RAMS) were obtained from healthy diarrheic calves three each alternately visited consecutive times. RAMS analysed for O26, stx1, stx2 eae genes. Overall, 19% tested positive O157, while 31% O26. majority possessed both stx eae, denoting a high pathogenic potential humans. While serogroups persisted at farm level, persistence within same animal over time appeared be relatively rare. Interestingly, already abundantly present younger age compared O157. Calf diarrhoea could not associated Conclusions Young are important on-farm reservoirs potentially A role confirmed. Significance Impact Study responsible human STEC infections. Gaining more epidemiological information regarding their farms will contribute better understanding ecology risk transmission.

Comparison of rectoanal mucosal swab cultures and fecal cultures for determining prevalence of Escherichia coli O157:H7 in feedlot cattle.

We compared fecal samples with samples collected with rectoanal mucosa swabs (RAMS) to determine the prevalence of Escherichia coli O157 in feedlot cattle (n = 747). Escherichia coli O157 was detected in 9.5% of samples collected with RAMS and 4.7% of samples tested by fecal culture. Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis analysis of isolates suggested that the strains colonizing the rectoanal juncti...

Comparison of cultures from rectoanal-junction mucosal swabs and feces for detection of Escherichia coli O157 in dairy heifers.

Fecal culture for Escherichia coli O157:H7 was compared to rectoanal mucosal swab (RAMS) culture in dairy heifers over a 1-year period. RAMS enrichment culture was as sensitive as fecal culture using immunomagnetic separation (IMS) (P = 0.98, as determined by a chi-square test). RAMS culture is less costly than fecal IMS culture and can yield quantitative data.

Diagnostic Accuracy of Rectoanal Mucosal Swab of Feedlot Cattle for Detection and Enumeration of Salmonella enterica.

Cattle are noted carriers of the foodborne pathogen Salmonella enterica. The perceived need to decrease the potential human health risk posed by excretion of this pathogen has resulted in numerous studies examining the factors that influence Salmonella shedding in cattle. Fecal grab (FG) samples have been the predominant method used to identify cattle colonized or infected with Salmonella; howe...

Molecular screening of pathogenic Escherichia coli strains isolated from dairy neonatal calves in Cordoba province, Argentina.

The aim of this study was to perform a current molecular characterization of bovine pathogenic Escherichia coli strains isolated from random samplings in Argentinean dairy farms. Rectal swabs were obtained from 395 (63.7%) healthy and 225 (36.3%) diarrheic calves, belonging to 45 dairy farms in Cordoba Province, Argentina. E. coli isolates were examined for virulence genes (f5, f41, f17, sta, s...
